Global Art
Art as a form of resistance, identity, and world transformation.
The book Global Art by Jessica Lack offers a gripping overview of fifty lesser-known yet crucial modern and contemporary art movements from around the world. These movements often emerged from political and social upheaval—colonialism, marginalization, activism, or revolutionary ideas—and served as tools for transforming both society and the language of art.
The author introduces readers to movements such as Iran’s Saqqakhaneh, Mexican Stridentism, Japan’s Jikken Kobo group, or the African-American collective AfriCOBRA. Each movement is placed within its historical and cultural context, highlighting its key figures, ideological roots, and international impact. *Global Art* broadens our understanding of art history by amplifying voices often overlooked in the mainstream.
