Who was Andy Warhol?
An American artist, a central figure of pop art and probably the best known “art factory” of the 20th century. He was born on 6 August 1928 in Pittsburgh to immigrants from the village of Miková in eastern Slovakia, so his roots reach a few hundred kilometres closer to us than you might expect.

Screen printing made his name: Campbell's soup cans, repeated portraits of Marilyn Monroe, the banana on The Velvet Underground's album sleeve. In New York he ran The Factory, a studio where artists, musicians and celebrities mixed, and he founded Interview magazine.
